OVERVIEW:
Dara and
Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara's
beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged. When Dara
vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another
girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes
increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to
find her sister, before it's too late.
In this edgy
and compelling novel, Lauren Oliver creates a world of intrigue, loss, and
suspicion as two sisters’ search to find themselves, and each other.
REVIEW:
Vanishing
girls is a story about two sisters Dara and Nick, it tells the story on how
both sisters grew up really close and how their personalities are the exact
opposite. Dara is the youngest one, and she is also the wild one. Dara always
thinks that Nick gets everything and she gets none, she likes being the center
of attention. Nick on the other hand is the “perfect one”... She’s older than
Dara by 11 months but she really acts like the big sister. They both grew up
very close with their friend Parker... His role in the story is that he is the
guy best friend of Dara and Nick, but he’s more close to Nick and that makes
Dara feel left out… Anyway Parker plays a big role on the sisters strained
relationship.
Nick and
Dara both got in a car accident and after that both sisters stopped talking to
each other and they just stopped being sisters in a way… Then there’s Madeline
Snow, the 9 year old who went missing in their town. Her story of course has a
connection with Dara and Nick.
I liked the
story, even though I don't have a sister I can still connect with the
characters and how much it affects you when you have a big fight with your sibling/s.
I don't really like the story of the missing girl and how it’s connected to
Dara and Nick; I just thought that the author could have done a better job
connecting the characters. The ending I must say was I didn't really saw that
coming.. Or I was just having a slow moment or whatever. This book has a little
bit mystery, not really a thriller and just a dash of family drama with a set
of very dysfunctional parents.
